A new semester at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – MIT with the “Applications of Energy in Global Development” class at D-Lab
A few weeks ago the Spring semester began at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with the course “Applications of Energy in Global Development” where our CEO, Nick Maggio approaches Building Science for Weatherization at MIT D-Lab. “Teaching, mentoring, and guiding groups of MIT D-Lab students is always an extremely enriching experience that embodies our mission of connecting global expertise with local communities” he says.
This semester we have students from MIT and Harvard, at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, with backgrounds ranging from architecture, engineering, urban planning, and computer science, and from India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We will work alongside them and our students from the Nehuen Peuman Community College in Bariloche and the National University of San Martín in Buenos Aires. Working with such diversity always proves to be a great experience for professional and personal growth and demonstrates the power of collaborative, cross-border learning.
In addition to the class, we organized a presentation at MIT D-Lab of the previous semester’s project. We presented the pedagogical project both in the classroom and in the field, and especially demonstrated our work with virtual reality models, an innovative tool that allows students across continents to visualize and interact with housing improvement projects in immersive ways:

We are incredibly grateful to Gary Nelson from The Energy Conservatory, whose unwavering support makes our initiatives possible and helps us continue building capacity for weatherization worldwide.
